“The year 2022 has passed under the auspices of massive bans and restrictions. Numerous repressive laws have been adopted, freedom of assembly and speech has been eliminated. Even single pickets lead to arrests, sometimes with the use of violence and prosecutions. Hundreds of websites are blocked, broadcast and press licenses of independent media are revoked (including Nobel Prize laureate ‘Novaya Gazeta’).

However, even during such a dark time, we have made some progress that we will share in this report. We remained in Russia and continued our work in permanent contact with the police, the Federal Penitentiary Service, the prosecutor’s office, the Investigative Committee and the courts.

No matter how insignificant the problems of ordinary Russians may seem against the backdrop of what is happening in the world, it is the care about an individual, the protection of his or her rights, — that is the true basis on which the civil society of a democratic state relies. The main task of human rights defenders today is to preserve this foundation — the Holy Grail, which will help to restore the world from the ashes in the future”.
