The Interregional Committee Against Torture takes part in an international conference on the human rights situation in the North Caucasus in Stockholm

On 23-24 November 2010 the Committee Against Torture takes part in the international conference “The Stockholm Process: STRENGTHENING HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS IN THE NORTH CAUCASUS” in

Stockholm, Sweden.
   The event is organized by Сivil Rights Defenders in cooperation with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and will focus on the human rights activity in the North-Caucasian district.  Among the participants there will be international and local human rights defenders and donor organizations working with the North Caucasus.
   During the conference it is planned to address the issues of Joint Mobile Groups’ operation in the region, discuss the problems and needs related to the supervision of proceedings in the North Caucasus, as well as lobbying of the PACE resolution “Legal remedies for human rights violations in the North Caucasus region”.
   Besides, the participants will discuss last year’s findings suggesting creation of special structures to increase the human rights defenders’ safety in the North Caucasus and proposed contributions of participating organizations to the Stockholm Process.
