On 30 November 2007 the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court annulled the sentence under the criminal case opened in respect of the death of Aleksandr Anoshin in the detoxification center of Sovetsky District of Nizhny Novgorod and remanded the case for a new trial. The public investigation into the death of Aleksandr Anoshin had been carried out by lawyers of the Interregional Department of the INGO Committee Against Torture. They also represented the interests of the victim before the court. You may remember that on 5 July 2007 the Sovetsky District Court found three officers of the Sovetsky detox center – Mr. A. Maslov, Mr. E. Ageev and Mr. A. Antonov – guilty of the murder of Aleksandr Anoshin. The court sentenced Mr. A Maslov to 12 years imprisonment in a high-security colony, and defendants Antonov and Ageev to a four-year suspended sentence on three year’s probation.

The Committee Against Torture will be further representing the interests of the victims in the framework of this case.
