Today the court adjudicated on the case of two Orenburg policemen – major Valery Prytkov and senior sergeant Sergey Abrashin. The court found both guilty under cl. “a”, “b” and “c”, p.3 of article 286  («Exces of powers») and p. 4  of article 111 («Malicious injury leading to coincidental death») of the RF Criminal Code.

Each policeman was sentenced to 7 years in a standard regime penal colony.  

As the Committee against Torture has earlier stated, on December 19, 2005 Buguruslan citizen Vassily Lyamov was battered by two police officers from the Buguruslan city district police department. Later he spent several hours on the floor at the police station and was not rendered any medical help. Emergency doctors who were finally summoned could only diagnose Lyamov’s death.  Upon the victim’s relatives’ application the regional office of the Committee against Torture in Bashkortostan took part in the investigation of the case.

The forensic medical examination conducted by the Regional Forensic Medical Examination Bureau in Orenburg showed that Lyamov, still alive, had multiple injuries – bruises and abrasions on the face, head, cerebral apoplexy, cervical vertebrae breakages, etc.
    Lawyers from the Committee against Torture pressed for the instigation of the criminal case against the police offices and represented the victims’ interests in court.

The victim’s relatives were satisfied with the verdict.
