    Today judge of the Kanavinsky district court Elena Alexandrova has sustained the claim of Emil Dadashov against the RF Finance Ministry. You may remember that on 2 April 2009 police officer Biryukov was found guilty of a crime committed against Emil Dadashov under cl. “a”, “b”, p.3, art. 286 of the RF Criminal Code (abuse of office with violent treatment and usage of special tools).

Earlier the court determined that at night on 1 April 2008 officer Biryukov had entered the cell for administrative detainees in the Nizhegorodsky district Directorate of the Interior and savagely battered Emil Dadashov using an electric shocker.

The same conclusions were reached by the Committee against Torture that had conducted a public investigation under Mr. Dadashov’s application.   

Today’s court hearing has resulted in a decision by which the RF Finance Ministry is to compensate Mr. Dadashov the material damage in the amount of 60 000 roubles (here the court has fully sustained the claim). The court has also awarded compensation of moral damage in the amount of 40 000 roubles.

Emil Dadashov is satisfied with the decision of the Kanavinsky district court of Nizhny Novgorod and is not going to appeal against it.
