The Interregional Committee against Torture invites mass media to the final hearing of the criminal case against police officer Sergey Biryukov accused of battering Azerbaijani Emil Dadashov by the Nizhny Novgorod regional court.   

Tomorrow, on 2 April 2009, at 9.00 a.m., federal judge Evgeny Pyryev will proclaim the verdict.

You may remember that the state prosecution qualifies defendant Biryukov’s actions as a crime under cl.“a”, “b” p.3 art. 286 of the RF CC (abuse of powers with violent treatment).

The prosecution insists on a punishment of 5 years of real imprisonment. Besides, the Prosecutor’s office demands that Biryukov should be deprived of the right to work in law enforcement and state bodies for 3 years.
