   Today, in IA Interfax, during a press-conference, chairman of the Interregional Committee against Torture Igor Kalyapin and victim of police abuse Alexey Yakimov reported about the events of 5 April 2009 when Mr. Yakimov had been savagely battered by two operational investigators of the Nizhegorodskiy district Directorate of the Interior.

The check conducted by the CAT under Mr. Yakimov’s application showed that the applicant’s statement was true.

The Internal Security Department of the Nizhny Novgorod region is now also checking Mr. Yakimov’s application.  

The prosecutor’s Office where Mr. Yakimov applied has not yet finished the check. We may suppose that the investigation is delayed intentionally.
