Today, the Khasavyurt City Court found two ex-policemen guilty. In 2020, they ill-treated Dagestan resident Yulduz Kurashova at the police station. A criminal case was also fabricated against the woman regarding the illegal trafficking of drug or toxic substances for the purpose of sale (Article 234 of the Russian Criminal Code). Subsequently, that case was closed.

The accused officers, Shamil Aliyev and Ramazan Saypulayev, were convicted of exceeding official authority with the use of violence (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code) and falsification of evidence (Part 4 of Article 303 of the Code). Mr. Aliyev was given a fine of 150 000 rubles and 3 years of suspended imprisonment. Mr. Saypulayev was also sentenced to 4 years of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 200 000 rubles. Besides, the court indicated that both policemen do not have the right to work in law enforcement agencies for 3 years, but they were not deprived of their special ranks.

In addition, the investigation claimed that the third accused officer, Maya Akhmedova, helped her colleagues to falsify the protocol against the victim, Yulduz Kurashova; however, the court has acquitted her and recognized her right to rehabilitation.

After the court hearing, Yulduz Kurashova underlined that she was dissatisfied with Ms. Akhmedova’s acquittal and was going to challenge the court’s ruling.
