On 20 March 2007 at 10 a.m. the Dzerzhinsk City Court of Nizhny Novgorod Region presided by federal judge A.A. Polidorsky opens proceedings under the criminal case against two police officers charged with cruel treatment of Vladimir Polyashov. The proceedings will start with a preliminary hearing. You may remember that two police officers are charged with the commission of a crime under pts. “а”, “б”, “в” para. 3 art. 286 of the Criminal Code (Abuse of official power associated with the use of violence or threat of it, committed with the use of force entailing serious consequences) and p. “a” para. 3 art. 111 of the Criminal Code (Willful infliction of serious injuries to health committed by a gang). Lawyers of the NN Committee Against Torture has carried out an unofficial investigation on V. Polyashov’s application and are going to represent him before the court.
