On 9 October 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Independent Press Center (Office 44, 17/9 Perechistenka Str., Moscow) Demos Center presents a new book entitled “Police Between Russia and Chechnya. Veterans of the Conflict in Russian Society”.

    The book is based on the materials of a complex study “Chechen Veterans in Modern Russia”. The research was carried out in five regions of Russia (Adygei, Komi, Tver region, Nizhny Novgorod region and Altai region) by specialists of Demos Center and the expert network of the Center in regions of Russia. A number of profound expert interviews were made with police officers and wives of veterans. Heads of police stations, police psychologists and leaders of veteran organizations also took part in the research.

    How does the “Chechen experience” influence the everyday activities of policemen? Do policemen agree that the “Chechen experience” prevents them from self-actualization? How did the police benefit from the many-year war in Chechnya? And how does the “Chechen experience” influence the relationship between the police and the public? These and other questions were put in the course of the study.

    The book narrates about the experience that policemen got in Chechnya and about their return back to normal life after the conflict.
