Today, on April 23, deputy chairman of the Multiregional Committee against torture Olga Sadovskaya takes part in an international expert meeting on the development of international, regional and internal control mechanisms for torture tools shipment.

This meeting organized under the auspices of Amnesty International takes place in London. In the context of the meeting the Committee against Torture representative will discuss the issue of effective torture tool control mechanisms development with the UN special rapporteur on torture Mr. Manfred Nowak and other specialists.

This presupposes control over production, shipment and distribution of special police tools – clubs, electric shockers, handcuffs that are rather often used for torturing people according to the information provided by human rights defendants.

It should be mentioned that the Committee against Torture actively cooperates with many foreign and international organizations in the sphere of torture prevention. Developing partnership with such a prominent organization as Amnesty International is one of the major ways for the Committee against Torture to form efficient mechanisms of torture prevention and human rights protection.
