The Committee against Torture reports that Ms. Maslova and Mr. Nalbandov received 70 000 and 10 000 euro correspondingly as compensation of moral damage from the RF Treasury in accordance with the enforced judgment of the European Court of Human Rights of 24 January 2008.

Earlier in its judgment under the case “Maslova, Nalbandov vs. Russia” (application № 839/02) the Court unanimously found the RF guilty of breaching a number of Convention articles in respect of the applicants.

You may remember that Ms. Olga Maslova from Nizhny Novgorod accuses officers from the Nizhny Novgorod Prosecutor’s office and police of brutal tortures and rape she was subject to in November 1999 when she was interrogated as a witness in criminal investigation.

The Committee against Torture conducted an investigation upon Ms. Maslova’s request proving that the claim was motivated. For 9 years the Committee has provided Ms. Maslova with legal aid and support on the national level and in the ECtHR.

It is worth saying that the torture case has not yet reached the court in Russia.
