The European Court has registered the application filed by the Committee against Torture in the interests of Ms. Lilia Gremina from Nizhny Novgorod. The application is registered under number 17054/08.

You may remember that Ms. Gremina accuses the police of unlawful detention and violent treatment on 24 March 2007 in course of the so called Dissenters’ March in Nizhny Novgorod.

Ms. Gremina applied to the Committee against Torture for an investigation. Having conducted a public investigation, the Committee against Torture specialists concluded that the actions of the police, and namely, unlawful detention and violent treatment, had been abusive, did not reflect the tasks and principles of the police and had humiliated the elderly lady.
