Yesterday the Orenburg office of the Committee against Torture presented a wheelchair to Evgeniy Svintakov from Orsk. As a result of savage battery in 2003 by workers of colony no.3 in Novotroitsk, Evgeniy Svintakov obtained a brain injury leading to first degree disability. The motor functions of the victim’s left arm and leg were impaired. Evgeniy could not drive a manual control wheelchair, therefore, he basically spent the last six years confined to his flat. In the framework of the Rehabilitation Programme for Torture Victims, the Committee against Torture bought an expensive German wheelchair with an electric drive for Mr. Svintakov as soon as there was such a chance.

Thanks to the support of the Committee against Torture Evgeniy now has a possibility to go on walks on his own, go to hospital, shopping. Thus, it will be easier for him to reintegrate in the society and lead a much more variegated life.
