In December 2023, Zarema’s attorney, Aleksandr Savin, lodged a motion before the Shali City Court to release Ms. Musayeva from custody due to her serious health condition. The woman has insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes and a number of chronic diseases.

According to Zarema, who was visited by the attorney yesterday, she was never given a medical examination, which, according to the Resolution of the Russian Supreme Court, should have been done and provided to the Shali City Court immediately.

During these months, Zarema took part in two court hearings, received a penalty for not having a name badge, and was transferred from the settlement colony (open prison) to the pre-trial detention center and back.

Mr. Savin sent a number of requests to find out why the seriously ill woman had not yet undergone a medical examination.

The attorney underlined the following: «I’ve sent these requests to understand whether a health examination of Zarema Musayeva is planned, as required by Russian law. My client and I want to understand why the examination has not been carried out for several months. It’s crucial to indicate that earlier, the Federal Penitentiary Service provided us with Zarema’s medical record, which indicated a disease that prevents the serving of a criminal sentence in a colony.»

To recall, Zarema Musayeva is currently serving her prison term in the settlement colony of the city of Argun in Chechnya.
