A traffic policeman was sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment on probation and a fine of 35 thousand roubles

The sentence of the Dzerzhinsk City Court of Nizhny Novgorod region on a traffic policeman has entered into force today.

    On 29 March 2007 INGO Committee Against Torture received an application from Evgeny Dubovitsky, a citizen of Dzerzhinsk who asked to grant him legal aid in the framework of an inquiry into his alleged beating by Mr. S.V. Ankudinov and Mr. A.V. Maryevsky, a traffic police sergeant of the Dzerzhinsk police station.

    Lawyers of the Committee Against Torture provided the victim with competent legal assistance and as a result the criminal case was referred to the Dzerzhinsk City Court which passed the verdict that has entered into force.

    The Court found Sergey Ankudinov and Andrey Maryevsky guilty of the crime under Article 112 §2 “г” of the RF Criminal Code and sentenced: Sergey Ankudinov under Article 112 §2 “г” of the Criminal Code taking into account Article 68 §2 of the Criminal Code to three years’ imprisonment and Andrey Maryevsky also under Article 112 §2 “г” of the Criminal Code taking into account Article 68 §2 of the Criminal Code to three years’ imprisonment. On the grounds of Article 73 of the Criminal Code the sentences imposed on them shall be conditional on 2 years’ probation for Sergey Ankudinov and on 3 years’ probation for Andrey Maryevsky.  

    In addition, Andrey Maryevsky is to pay out to Evgeny Dubovitsky 35 thousand roubles in compensation for non-pecuniary damage.
