Another hacker attack on the Committee Against Torture

This time unknown hackers have broken into the CAT’s YouTube account and removed the video from the press-conference devoted to the results of the Nizhny Novgorod action “For Fair Elections”, during which one of action organizers Nikolay Nikolayev spoke  about the incident that had happened to him in Minin square right after the rally end.

We would like to remind you that this is not the first attack against the Committee in the Internet. On January 28 the CAT’s web-site was hacked and a huge amount of its content was destroyed.

This time the attack was targeted at the YouTube video in which United Civil Front representative Nikolay Nikolayev spoke about the details of his abduction and ill-treatment in the central square right after the rally end. Nikolayev with a high degree of certainty identified one of his tormentors – head of the Anti-Extremism Centre under the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Directorate of the Interior Alexey Trifinov.

The Committee Against Torture considers these incidents connected and regards them as an attempt of putting it under pressure, discrediting and complicating its work.  From the moment of its creation the CAT has faced reluctance of its opponents to abide by law, therefore, such provocations are not a surprise, and the Committee is ready to go on with its mission.
