Interests of individuals acknowledged victims of police abuse ill-treated during the police raid in December 2004 are represented by lawyers of the Interregional Committee Against Torture.

   Today the Leninsky district court of Ufa (Republic of Bashkiria) has awarded compensation of moral damage to police abuse victim Manvel Alaverdyan. The award has amounted to 50 000 rubles.

Manvel is the son of Samvel Alaverdyan who was earlier awarded 70 000 rubles as compensation of moral damage.  In December 2004 Samvel Alaverdyan and his sons Manvel and Shagen were abused by officer Guilvanov from the Blagoveschensk Department of Internal Affairs who exceeded his powers and unlawfully broke into Alaverdyan’s house together with SPF officers during a police “mopping-up”.  

Hundreds of Blagoveschecnsk citizens suffered from the actions of Special Police Forces in course of that operation approved by the heads of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs. More than 300 people have been acknowledged victims.
