Having encountered officers of the Staropromyslovsky District Department of Internal Affairs, Chechnya, the youth found himself in hospital with multiple injuries.

   The Chechen representation of the Interregional Committee Against Torture has received an application from Adlan Akhmadov’s relatives. They claim that after detention by officers of the Staropromyslovsky District Department of Internal Affairs Adlan was taken to hospital with multiple haematomas and operated on. According to the applicants, the police tried to obtain a confession they needed from the young man.

   Akhmadov is still in hospital under control of the police. The police prevent the ICAT lawyer from entering Adlan’s ward in breach of law and thus deny the young man a chance to exercise his right. The CAT had to send an urgent letter to the Chechen Minister of Internal Affairs asking him to promptly eliminate the hurdles that prevent effective protection of Adlan’s rights.  Besides, the Chechen representation is preparing a report about the crime which will be submitted to the head of the Staropromyslovsky Investigation Department.
