Human rights defenders organize a seminar for Orenburg police

Today a two-day seminar on Law and Practice of the European Court of Human Rights for police officers started today. The seminar is conducted by the Multiregional NGO Committee against Torture together with human rights organization “Man and Law” (Mariy El) within the framework of the project “Monitoring and training as a means of torture prevention”. It is the second time such a seminar is organized in Orenburg region. In March 2007human rights defenders conducted the first seminar for investigation department personnel of Orenburg region.  

The first seminar was interesting both for policemen and the Regional Police Department authorities who expressed their wish to cooperate with the Committee against Torture and Man and Law.

This time the seminar is organized for district police officers.

In these two days policemen will get basic information on human rights in the context of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, besides, seminar participants will discuss various problems of police abuse and human rights violations, psychological aspects of conflicts between law enforcement authorities and the public. It is also planned to hold discussions on the role and interaction of NGOs with law enforcement agencies. After the seminar the policemen will get certificates for this course.
