On 2 September 2009 the Committee against Torture invites mass media to a press-conference joint with the organization’s Birthday.

On 30 August the Committee against Torture celebrates its 9th birthday. During these years the organization aimed at effective public control of the situation related to proliferation of tortures and other forms of cruel treatment in Russia, offered professional medical and legal assistance to torture victims. Now, after a considerable period of working in this complicated area, the Committee against Torture has become the largest Russian human rights organization specializing in professional analysis of the problem of tortures, investigation into allegations of torture and comprehensive support for torture victims.
At the press-conference we are going to speak about the results of our operation during 9 years, about the mechanism that we have created to make the state investigate torture cases, about our plans and activities that will render tortures and cruel treatment disadvantageous for law enforcement bodies and the state.
