Lawyers will acquire trial observation skills

A two day training on trial observation organized by the Committee Against Torture and International Commission of Jurists begins today in Nizhny Novgorod.

The purpose of the training is to impart practical trial observation skills to lawyers, teach them to analyze and assess collected data and write a trial observation report. During the training the participants will discuss general issues of court system regulation; its compliance with international law and human rights standards; fair trial criteria and corresponding guarantees; problems of trial monitoring and meeting relevant state officials and other activities outside the court building.

The training is conducted by an experienced trial observer and international experts from the ICJ secretariat.
