New Guidelines on human rights protection are being discussed in London

Representatives of the NN Committee Against Torture – Dmitry Utukin and Olga Sadovskaya – are taking part in a three days’ meeting of participants of the project “Reparation for torture survivors:  Implementing the Newly Adopted Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law and Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law”. At the meeting the participants will draft a plan for a three years’ project and work out tools of protection and reparation for torture victims both on domestic and international levels. The project has been initiated by a British human rights NGO REDRESS (, which has been cooperating with the NN Committee Against Torture for more than three years already. The REDRESS assisted us with the famous case of Mikheev representing the interests as a third party to the case. The initiated project will be implemented in Great Britain, Russia, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Peru and Sudan.
