Nizhny Novgorod: the Committee Against Torture organizes a seminar on torture prevention within the fight against terrorism in Russia

    The Committee against Torture invites journalists and NGO representatives to take part in the seminar on tortures and terrorism that will take place on 3-4 October 2009 in Nizhny Novgorod.

  On 3-4 October 2009 in Nizhny Novgorod the Interregional Committee against Torture together with the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture (IRCT) organizes a seminar for journalists and human rights defenders engaged in human rights protection in Russia to discuss the problem of tortures in the framework of the project “Preventing torture within the fight against terrorism” implemented by the IRCT. The objective of the seminar is to discuss the problem of human rights protection within the fight against terrorism in Russia, to create a foundation for a constructive dialogue between journalists reporting on human rights and human rights NGOs, to share experience and exchange opinions, and probably, to work out the guidelines of journalists’ and NGO cooperation in this sphere.

We invite everyone to take part in the seminar. Those who would like to participate, please, fill in the questionnaire and mail it to us till September 20. The Committee against Torture will reimburse all travel expenses if you provide original copies of your travel documents. The organizers also provide meals and lodging. The number of participants is limited. Please send your questionnaires to komitet@pytkam.net, subject – “seminar application”.
