On 26 June 2015 INGO «The Committee Against Torture» is going to conduct a series of street pickers dedicated to the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Actions will take place in Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg and Yoshkar-Ola. In Moscow such an action will be conducted together with the Amnesty International activists.

The pickets aim at informing the public on the necessity of observing national legislation on prevention of torture and other brutal, inhumane and degrading treatment.

In 1997, upon the recommendation of the Economic and Social Council, the UN General Assembly proclaimed June 26 International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. This day is observed with the purpose of attracting the public attention to ending torture and ensuring effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment   of 1984 which entered into force on June 26, 1987.

In Nizhny Novgorod the picket will take place at the Teatralnaya Square (B.Pokrovskaya St., near the Academy Theater of Drama named after M.Gorkiy). Start at 18:00.
In Orenburg the picket will take place in the mini-park named after Osipenko. Start at 17:00.

In Yoshkar-Ola the picket will take place at the square named after Lenin. Start at 10:00.
In Moscow the picket will take place at the pedestrial area near the metro station “Sokolniki”. Start at 12:00.

We invite all to join our action, and invite journalists to take part in the media coverage of the activities.

Apart from that, the Committee Against Torture offers everyone to take part in the flashmob dedicated to the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. All it takes is to make a selfie with a sign plate #ПЫТКАМ_НЕТ and #STOPTORTURE and upload the photo in one’s account in any social media.
