Today the Orenburg office of the Interregional Committee Against Torture has notified the Orenburg city administration about their intention to picket the Orenburg Regional Directorate of the Interior. Human rights defenders will protest against escalation of violence in the regional police.  

The ultimate incident that has provoked the picket was Armenian citizen Armen Sargasyan’s death in the operational investigative unit of the Directorate of the Interior. We would like to remind you that it happened on November 18, 2011. Presumably, Armen died of asphyxia as a result of tortures by choking.    

The Interregional Committee Against Torture invites citizens and mass media who are concerned about tortures and police abuse to take part in the event on November 29.
