They think this compensation for their brother’s and father’s murder unjustly underrated and are going to appeal against the decision.
The decision awarding compensation was delivered yesterday by the Sovietsky district court of Nizhny Novgorod under the suit of the Committee against Torture acting in the interests of Mr. Anoshin’s sister and children. Mr. Anoshin was killed by a police officer in July 2002.
In August 2008 the Sovietsky district court found officer Maslov guilty under p.1, art. 105 of the RF Criminal Code and p.3, art. 286 of the RR Criminal Code and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment in an increased security penal colony.
In summer 2002 Gidromash plant worker Alexander Alexeyevich Anoshin was detained by the police for intoxication in public and taken to the medical detoxification centre of the Sovietsky District Directorate of the Interior. At night he was choked.
When the state acknowledged the fact of Alexander Anoshin’s murder by the police officer, the relatives got a chance to claim compensation of moral damage.
On 25 May 2009 judge of the Sovietsky district court Elena Lysova partially sustained the claim of Mr. Anoshin’s three children and sister and obliged the Nizhny Novgorod regional Finance Ministry to pay them 600 000 roubles.
Mr. Anoshin’s relatives think the compensation amount unjustly underrated and are going to appeal against the decision in the cassation instance. It should be mentioned that the claimants wanted to get 12 million roubles.
