Saint-Petersburg: Discussion on problems of working with the European Court

    On May 4-8 the first workshop of lawyers working with the European Court of Human Rights took place in Saint-Petersburg. The main topic of the meeting was “Experience of applying to the European Court: development of lawyers’ professional competence”.

Leading lawyers of Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Samara, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad and Krasnoyarsk who have profound experience in working with the European Court took part in the workshop.  The Multiregional Committee against Torture was represented by lawyer Anton Ryzhov.

During the workshop the specialists discussed the issues of developing legal positions upon cases, expanding the lawyers’ expertise, joint analysis of problems appearing while cooperating with the ECtHR. The participants were eager to share their experience and made plans for the future.

It should be mentioned that the meeting was organized by the Clinical Legal Education Foundation (Saint-Petersburg), the Center for practical education of lawyers and human rights protection and the Laboratory for practical education of lawyers under the Criminal proceedings School of the Samara University and took place under the auspices of the McArthur Foundation and Ford Foundation.
