Today the NN Committee Against Torture has received information from citizens of Bogorodsk (a town in Nizhny Novgorod region) that they were cruelly beaten by policemen during the celebration of the Day of the Town last Sunday, on 1 July.

    These people alleged that there are women and children among the ill-treated. According to the applicants the conflict arose spontaneously when policemen, after the holiday was over, began harassing women.

    A group of the Committee’s lawyers was immediately sent to Bogorodsk to check the information.
