Branches of the Interregional Committee against Torture have chosen different ways to celebrate the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture on 26 June. In Ufa the Bashkirian representation conducts a press-conference on the problem of torture proliferation in this region and in Russian as a whole. Human rights defenders will speak about the current situation with police abuse, tell mass media why the police resorts to tortures so often, share their position about the ways to combat this malpractice.
After the press-conference, the movie “Save private Mikheyev” about the most famous case of the Cat will be show to the journalists.
The press-conference will take place on 26 June 2009 at 11:00 at the following address: Ufa, 43/1 Gogolya Street, office 205.
The Orenburg office of the ICAT is going on a picket from 1 till 3 p.m. in front of the Orenburg region Prosecutor’s Office, a state body responsible for human rights protection. Among the participants there will be torture victims and their relatives from Orsk and Orenburg.
