Yesterday, on 1 October 2008 in the editorial office of Komsomolskaya Pravda the Orenburg office of the Committee against Torture conducted a press conference devoted to the investigation into the savage battery of three young men – Mr. Anton Ferapontov, Mr. Maksim Nimativ and Mr. Vyacheslav Sadovskiy- by the police.

According to the young men, the tortures and battery took place in the Dzerzhinskiy district Department of Internal Affairs in Orenburg at night on 26 August 2008.

Yesterday the reporters had a chance to talk to the victims, their parents and comments of the Committee against Torture staff.

Lawyers of the Orenburg office of the Committee placed the burden of responsibility for the persistence of tortures in the region upon the Orenburg region investigation bodies that regularly refuse to start criminal cases in connection with police abuse, do not respond to numerous complaints of the citizens of article 3 violations (art. 3 ECHR, Prohibition of tortures and violent treatment).
