Yesterday in Grozniy there was a working meeting of Mr. Ziyavdi Zaurbekov, chairman of the Supreme Court of Chechnya, with lawyer Supyan Baskhanov, head of the Chechen representation of the Committee against Torture, chairman of the Legality Commission under the Public Chamber of the republic. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Saydemin Jabrailov, chairman of the Chechen Public Chamber, member of the RF Public Chamber, and Ms. Taisiya Karsamauli from the Human Rights Commissioner’s Office. The participants discussed the issues of law application, independent and unbiased court, adversarial proceedings and police abuse.    

    It was decided that Mr. Baskhanov from the Chechen representation of the Committee against Tortures should take part in monthly judges’ conference. Besides, Mr. Baskhanov has got the right to give his expert opinion of the judicial reform in the republic of Chechnya.
