You may know that the NN Committee Against Torture has addressed the Prosecutor of Nizhny Novgorod Region V.Maksimenko requiring him to examine the facts, which were sated by Elena Polyashova, the wife of the beaten artist from Dzerzhinsk, and if they prove to be true give them legal assessment. 

   The matter is that the Deputy Prosecutor of Dzerzhinsk has violated the law by refusing Ms. Polyashova, as she says, to accept her complaint, where she described the offence, committed by police officers in respect of her husband.

    Today the Committee Against Torture has received a letter from the Prosecutor’s Office of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The letter informs that in reply to the Committee’s application the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Prosecutor’s Office is investigating into the matter as instructed by prosecutor V.Maksimenko.

    Experts of the Committee welcome such an attitude of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office to the matter. Any violations of the law committed by those whose duty is to protect it, must be prosecuted and strictly penalized.
