The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg started its legal proceedings under the complaint of the Society of Russian-Chechen Friendship against the liquidation of this organization. It was reported by the NTA-Privolzhye news agency, referring to Oksana Chelysheva, the deputy executive director of the Finnish organization Society of Russian-Chechen Friendship.

    According to Ms. Chelysheva the complaint was prepared by renowned Moscow lawyers Anna Stavitskaya and Karina Moskalenko.

    Besides, the European Court gave priority to the application of the NN Committee Against Torture against the decision of conviction of Stanislav Dmitrievsky, the executive director of the Society, under Article 282 of the RF Criminal Code (Incitement to ethnic, racial and religious enmity).

    According to Ms. Chelysheva, the issue of the liquidation of the Society was also discussed in the dialogue between the European Union and Russia which took place on the threshold of the G-8 summit in Berlin in early May 2007.
