On October 11, 2011 at 10 a.m. the Nizhny Novgorod regional court will try the cassation appeal against conviction of two former Avtozavod district police officers – captain Zhuravlyov and warrant officer Ladin – who ill-treated 19-year old Stanislav Lebedev. The appeal filed by one of the convicts, A.Y. Zhuravlyov, is aimed at quashing the verdict and termination of criminal proceedings.

You may remember, on June 20, 2011 the Avtozavodsky district court sentenced Zhuravlyov to three years of imprisonment and Ladin – to 4 years of imprisonment in a standard security penal colony.

Both defendants have been disqualified from holding public office for 3 years.

Victim Lebedev and lawyers of the Committee Against Torture find the Avtozavodsky district court verdict just and proportionate to the committed crime.
