On 8 April 2010 Islam Umarpashayev abducted by unknown armed men in camouflage uniform on 11 December 2009 from his own home in Grozny was released in Chechnya.

The young men’s relatives applied to the Committee against Torture and the Prosecutor’s Office. Only at the end of December 2009 the investigation authorities opened a criminal case upon the fact of abducteion. And almost until recently the state claimed that they “were incapable” of determining Umarpashayev’s location.

Specialists of the Interregional Committee against Torture had to file an urgent application to the European Court of Human Rights in the interests of the abductee. On 24 February 2010 Russia’s representative in the European Court of Human Rights claimed that it was impossible to determine Umarpashayev’s location. At present Mr. Umarpashayev is in a safe place outside Chechnya.

In the nearest future Islam Umarpashayev is going to speak about the details of his abduction and detention conditions.
