The Lazarevsky District Court of Sochi will start the proceedings on the merits concerning the criminal case against the OMON officers on 18 September

The Committee Against Torture informs that the Lazarevsky District Court of the city of Sochi set the date of the hearing on the merits of the criminal case against the OMON (special police force) personnel for 18 September 2007. The hearing begins at 10 a.m. Such decision was adopted in the course of the preliminary hearing on 5 September. Besides the court denied the motion of the defence to change the preventive measure for the OMON officers from custody to a written undertaking not lo live the city.

    The Committee Against Torture which took part in the investigation of the events in the Druzhba youth camp in the framework of a combined mobile group of Russian human rights NGOs is going to inform the media and society about the legal proceeding concerning this case.
