The Multiregional Committee against Torture implements the project “Observing children’s rights is the future of our country” in Nizhny Novgorod

   In cooperation with partners from Chuvashia and Mariy El and under the auspices of the European Commission Nizhny Novgorod human rights activists will try to prevent children’s rights violations.

Implementation of the project “Observing children’s rights is the future of our country” together with the Chuvash office  of the NAN Foundation and Man and Law, Mariy El regional organization, is targeted at children’s rights protection and development, prevention of children’s rights violations, including children who are crime victims and juvenile delinquents.

Within the framework of this project the Committee against Torture and its partners will organize a seminar for representatives of state bodies working with children on May 29-30 in Tatinets (Kstovo district of Nizhny Novgorod region).

The specialists are going to discuss legislation on children’s rights that is in force in Russia and state obligations under the Convention on Children’s rights.

In course of the seminar special attention will be paid to psychological aspects of working with children, the participants will discuss international experience of helping underage citizens.

It is also planned to develop projects to support children who are crime victims and juvenile delinquents.

Among the participants we expect to see heads of juvenile departments under the Department of Internal Affairs of Nizhny Novgorod region, district Offices of Internal Affairs, as well as representatives of the state-legal ministry under the government of Nizhny Novgorod region, judges from Nizhny Novgorod and Dzerzhinsk.
