The trial over the OMON (special police forces) personnel of the Krasnodar Regional Central Police Department (GUVD), charged with the abuse of power in the course of the “mopping-up” operations in the Druzhba youth camp which took place last summer, has begun.

Human rights NGOs from different regions of Russia took part in the investigation of the tragic events in Nizhny Makops village, where the camp is situated. The today’s Open Letter, directed to General Prosecutor of Russia Yu. Chayka, expresses the coordinated views of the NGOs-participants of the investigation concerning the work of the Krasnodar Regional Prosecutor’s Office related to this scandalous case.

At the today’s preliminary trial the defense has made a number of motions, connected with a revision of the judicial restraint in respect of the OMON personnel, which is at present being kept in custody. The prosecution objected to the revision of the judicial restraint. The court adjourned the hearing till 15.00 tomorrow.
