The NN Committee Against Torture invites you to a press-conference

“Sociology of Violence. Abuses by Law Enforcement Agencies Through the Eyes of People”

Moscow, 28 March 2007, The Independent Press-Center, 1 p.m.

    The NN Committee Against Torture holds a press-conference to discuss the results of the implemented all-Russian opinion survey concerning torture problems in Russia through the eyes of ordinary people. The booklet which the Committee will present to journalists summarizes the gathered information and conclusions of the research, carried out by the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Science (RAN). The implementation of the research, organized by the NN Committee Against Torture became possible due to sponsorship of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in the framework of the project “Complex Study of Torture Practices in Russia”.

    During the conference the speakers will present the results of a three years’ project, and will answer the questions:     

    – Igor Kalyapin, the Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Human Rights NGO Committee Against Torture.

    – Yakov Gilinsky, professor, doctor of sociology, an expert of the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Science (Saint-Petersburg).

    The press-conference will be held on 28 March at 1 p.m. in the Independent Press-Center at bldg 3 “Б”, Sadovaya-Chernogryazskaya Str., Moscow, Krasnye Vorota” underground railway station.
