From 1 July 2007 the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Human Rights NGO Committee Against Torture expands its presence in Privolzhsky Federal District of the Russian Federation. Two new offices in Ufa and Orenburg started functioning.

    An official Office of the Committee in the Republic of Bashkortostan was opened in Ufa (43/1 Gogol Str., Ufa, 450077, tel.: (3472) 925890, e-mail: kpprb@mail.ru).

    A Division of the Orenburg Regional Office of the Committee was set up in Orenburg (of. 810, 22 Krasnoznamennaya Str., Orenburg, 460000, tel.: (3532)775088, e-mail: orenkpp@yandex.ru).

    The expansion of the Committee’s activity is caused first of all by the growing demand of people in Privolzhsky District for a qualified legal assistance in cases, connected with violations of rights and lawful interests of citizens by law enforcement officers, and also for more effective struggle with cases of torture and cruel treatment in Privolzhsky Federal District. The NN Committee Against Torture is convinced that the activities of the new offices in Ufa and Orenburg will have a positive effect on the observance of human rights in the Republic of Bashkortostan and Orenburg region, contributing to the common cause of the committee in Privolzhsky Federal District.
