The pensioner from Nizhny Novgorod who suffered from police abuse has been looking for justice in court for four years.

The Sovietsky district court postponed the hearing of the suit originated by Mr. Dmitriy Gorbulin, a pensioner from Nizhny Novgorod who had been beaten by the Patrol-Guard Police Service  exactly three years ago, till April 24.

This was reported by Mr. Yuriy Sidorov, lawyer of the Committee against Torture, who represents the pensioner’s interests in court. The hearing is postponed because the defendants – representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod region police department – did not show up in court.

You may remember that Dmitriy Gorbulin claims 300 thousand rubles as compensation of moral damages incurred by unlawful actions of the police.

It is worth mentioning that due to the Prosecutor’s office position the police officers are still not charged with a criminal offense.
