Yesterday the Nizhegorodsky district court conducted another hearing under the criminal case against Nizhny Novgorod police officers Timofeyev and Koreguin accused of beating Mr. Yakimov.  During the debate state prosecutor Grachyova explained that the officers’ guilt under cl. “a”, “b”, p.3 Art. 286 of the RF criminal Code (abuse of office with violent treatment and application of special tools) and p.1 Art. 326 of the RF Criminal Code (destruction and damaging of documents) had been proved to the full extent during the hearings.

The prosecutor asked the court to sentence both officers to 5 years of imprisonment in a standard security penal colony for committing a crime under Art. 286 of the RF CC and to 6 months of imprisonment in a standard security penal colony for committing a crime under Art.  325 of the RF CC. The combined adjusted sentence would be 5 years and 3 months in a standard security penal colony. The state prosecutor suggested that charges under Art. 119 and 117of the RF CC should be excluded from the indictment since those crimes were covered by the scope of Art.  286 of the RF CC and there was no need to qualify them separately.

We would like to remind you that the Interregional Committee against Torture represents victim Yakimov’s interests in court.
