On 9 September 2009 the Sechenovo district court of Nizhny Novgorod region started trying the suit claiming compensation of moral damage incurred by police abuse. The suit was filed by the Committee against Torture in the interests of Gennady Denisov from Sechenovo.  In April 2004 Mr. Denisov was brutally battered by the local police. After that he applied to the Committee against Torture for help. Thanks to the efforts of the Committee specialists, the case reached the court. Three police officers responsible for tortures were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment. In May 2009 Mr. Denisov lodged a civil suit against the RF Finance Ministry claiming compensation of moral damage in the amount of  1 000 000 roubles. Yesterday federal judge Alexander Muravyov considered Mr. Denisov’s submissions and scheduled another hearing for 17 September 2009.
