Azerbaijani Emil Dadashov (photo) beaten up in the Nizhegorodsky district Directorate of the Interior two years ago has received 100 000 rubles as compensation.

Today Azerbaijani Emil Dadashov has received 100000 rubles from the state as compensation awarded earlier by the Kanavinsky district court of Nizhny Novgorod. The compensation was awarded for the crime committed against Dadashov.  You may remember that Emil Dadashov applied for help to the Interregional Committee against Torture which later made the investigation authorities open a criminal case upon the fact of Emil’s abuse by officer Biryukov in the Nizhegorodsky district Directorate of the Interior.

On 2 April 2009 senior lieutenant of the police Sergey Biryukov was found guilty of abuse of office with violent treatment and sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment.

When the verdict entered into force, lawyers of the Interregional Committee against Torture filed a civil suit which resulted in the award of compensation of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage incurred by Biryukov’s actions to Mr. Dadashov.
