The cassation instance left the compensation amount unaltered. Now Nizhny Novgorod pensioner Dmitriy Gorbulya is to receive 25 thousand roubles as compensation of unlawful actions of the Nizhegorodskiy district police department staff who had battered him three years ago, according Mr. Gorbulya.

As reported by Mr. Yuriy Sidorov, lawyer of the Committee against Torture representing the victim in court, the Civil division of the Nizhny Novgorod regional court changed the defendant under this civil case. Now the compensation for law enforcement agents’ mistakes is to be paid by the regional Finance Ministry instead of the treasury.  

Despite the efforts of the Committee against Torture, criminal proceedings against the officers who had battered Mr. Gorbulya are still not instigated.  However, the today’s judgment redresses the old man’s sufferings to some extent.
