The victim claims 1 million roubles for tortures in the Lyskovo penal colony

   Today the Interregional Committee against Torture filed a claim in the interests of Sergey Karpov from Lyskovo to the Nizhegorodskiy district court of Nizhny Novgorod. Earlier Sergey Karpov had been acknowledged victim of tortures used by officer Martynov from penal colony IK-16.

Mr. Karpov claims compensation of moral damage incurred by the actions of the prison officer in the amount of 1 million roubles.

The defendant is the RF Finance Ministry.

On 6 July 2008 the Lyskovo district court sentenced colony worker Martynov to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a standard security penal colony.

He was found guilty of abuse of powers with violent treatment (cl. «а», p.3, art. 286 of the RF Criminal Code) and forcible suicide (art. 110 of the RF Criminal Code).

On 7 October 2008 the judgment entered into force.
