Today, lawyers of the ICAT have filed a series of motions in the context of the check under the case of Sormovo cemetery director Mikhail Skobelev’s abuse by officers of the Economic Crimes Department, performed by investigator Ermakov from the Special Investigation Department of the Investigation Administration for Nizhny Novgorod region.

  The motions contain requests to question eye-witnesses of Skovelev’s beatings and conduct a forensic medical examination.  

  The Committee against Torture believes that the investigative steps mentioned in the motions will contribute to the check and instigation of criminal proceedings against the policemen.

   It must be noted that the investigation under Skobelev’s application has been underway for a year already, and so far it cannot be considered effective in accordance with international standards.
