Israpil Baysurkayev has been sentenced to 9 years and Dzhabrail Baysurkayev – to 10 years of imprisonment in an increased security penal colony. They have been found guilty under clauses “a”, “f”, “g”, part 2, Article 105 (murder of two or more people committed in a generally dangerous way by a group of persons under a preliminary conspiracy), p.3, Article 30 (attempted crime), p. 1, Art. 167 (willful destruction or damage of property) of the RF Criminal Code. The court has also sustained the civil suit for compensation of moral damage in the amount of 500 thousand rubles incurred to Alikhan Eskarkhanov, filed earlier by an ICAT lawyer.

We would like you remind you that at the end of July 2009 the Chechen representation of the Interregional Committee Against Torture received an application from residents of Grebenskaya, Shelkovsky district of Chechnya, who claimed that their relatives – Rustam Eskerkhanov and Lom-Ali Ezerbiyev – had been killed by the police. The Committee lawyers conducted a public investigation and represented the victims’ interests during the pre-trial investigation and in court.
