On 30 March 2009 there will be a preliminary hearing of the suit filed by Alexander Anoshin’s relatives against the RF Finance Ministry. On Monday judge of the Sovietskiy district court of Nizhny Novgorod Elena Lysova will determine the circumstances necessary to solve the case correctly. The Anoshins’ interests will be represented by lawyers of the Committee against Torture who earlier pressed for initiation of a criminal case upon Mr. Anoshin’s death and lodged an application with the European Court of Human Rights.

In August 2008 the Sovietskiy district court found police officer Maslov guilty under p.1 art.105 of the RF CC and p.3 art.286 of the RF CC and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment in an increased security penal colony.

In summer 2002 Gidromash plant worker Alexander Alexeyevich Anoshin was detained by the police for intoxication in public and taken to the detoxification centre of the Sovietskiy district Directorate of the Interior. At night he was strangled.

As the state has admitted the fact of Alexander Anoshin’s murder by a police staff, the victim’s relatives can now claim compensation of moral damage.
